most of the articles on Jalopnik are barely related to cars

Ok, so lately finding a good, car related article on Jalopnik has been like finding a grain of race in a pile of needles. I have to wade through a hundred articles like these:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

To get to one awesomr article like this:

Kinja'd!!!

What do you guys think about articles like the ones above?

Is there anyway I can remove articles I don’t like from my feed?

I’m good with it. Automotive journalism can be tough if there aren’t interesting stories to write. So they fill in with other stuff they think readers might like.

And no, I don’t think you can modify the FP as if it were a feed.

Literally everything you listed was better than this. Jalopnik has always been a bit free form and lately (in the last 2-3 years) has become a bit more of a transportation blog. At least all of those articles are somewhat related to transportation. I think if you're looking for a website that exclusively does car reviews, you're in the wrong spot. Partially because Jalopnik and Gawker at large doesn't exactly go to great lengths to make people happy so they will never get the best exclusive vehicles to review.

Oh my god. I cannot believe that was on Jalopnik.

Click on the ones you want to read, don’t click on the other ones?

Also, how are articles about CTS-V pricing, Bristol, door handles, scandal at Mitsubishi and freak gasoline accidents NOT about cars or the auto industry? What are they about then?

A lot of the above were still about cars. Talking about the CTS–V, car design, car companies, car news, or at least funny stuff that’s related to cars. That’s one of the reasons I liked Jalopnik over something like Motortrend—it’s more than just reviews or previews of upcoming stuff. I agree some of the stuff is pretty unrelated (the FA stuff mainly), but I still find some of that interesting, and it seems like it’s bringing in readers.

I agree with Racescort that if you’re looking for something much closer to a typical enthusiast magazine, Jalopnik isn’t the right place.

I like to think they have a similar deviation from the main subject much like Oppo is. Sure there are plenty of articles that don’t have much to do about cars, or are even a stretch at some points.. then there’s also the ones that don’t belong at all ( like what Racescort pointed out) . I blame the gawker tie in because there will be bleed over from Kotaku, Gawker, definitely Gizmodo given the rise of tech and cars, and yes sometimes *shudder* Jezebel.

Variety but with balance. Sometimes it is nice to see different material and in general car folks tend to have a similar view point on things so that perspective on an unrelated subject can be interesting too.

The ctsv was an example of a good article. And that I don’t click on articles I don’t like reading, but it’s annoying having to go through several pages to find one that is really good.

My advice to you is have more listacles. Example: “ranking every car in the mercedes Benz lineup from best to worst”. Now that would be an interesting read.

if you think Jalopnik is bad, try finding a tech article on Gizmodo.

Oppo has gotten a bit off the point as well.

I do want to hear about someone’s latest build project (the true cost of a $500 car, parts 1 through whatever, is awesome).

I do NOT want any more posts that are orange, posts that occur on the hour, posts about random shit that has nothing to do with cars.

Keep it weird? KEEP IT ON TOPIC.

While I agree that there’s a much larger amount of shared articles on the front page, please realize that there’s a reason for that: Jalopnik (or any other blog/sub-blog in this network) cannot feasibly cater to each individual reader’s interests. Some others may be eating this stuff up, in a random-transportation-content sort of way—and if these types of pieces disappear, people will likely start asking why much less gets posted on the front page. By sharing content from other sub-blogs, you may come across an article that you want to read, which you otherwise might have missed. This was how I found out about a number of Stef Schrader’s articles on Black Flag, and I’m happy about that. Someone else made a good point that this means you don’t have to scour each category of blog to find content in which you might be interested.
